The beautiful image of the Sun god has been given a refine treatment in the Madhubani painting. The beautiful painting shows the importance of the sun and its rays for the very survival of lives on earth. The sun rays have been beautifully depicted with black signs. Mithila or Madhubani paintings are a kept alive by the women in northern Bihar. Based on traditional designs and events from epic mythology, these paintings are made on the floors and walls of their houses. They use crushed wet rice and natural colors on purely handmade paper. From this age-old tradition born the practice of drawing Mithila paintings on a canvas of handmade paper or pure mulberry silk fabric, using natural colours and fabric dyes.
