    NIKE

Nike is the goddess of strength, speed, and victory in Greek mythology. She was the daughter of the Titan Pallas and the goddess Styx.Nike fought on the side of Zeus in his famous battle against the Titans, and assisted him in gaining victory over his fearsome rivals. As a result of this epic battle, Zeus gained control of Mount Olympus and became the supreme Olympian.

After receiving the gift of a golden chariot from Zeus, Nike assumed the role of the divine charioteer to him, a role in which she often is portrayed in Classical Grecian art. She flew around battlefields rewarding the victors with glory and fame, symbolized by a wreath of laurel leaves.

Nike is depicted as having wings, hence her alternative name "Winged Goddess", in most statues and paintings, with one of the most famous being the Winged Victory of Samothrace.

The goddess was also found in the company of the goddess of Wisdom and War, Athena, who never put up with defeat. Nike is thought to have stood in Athena's outstretched hand in the statue of Athena located in the Parthenon.

Ancient Greeks believed that Nike could strengthen their human capabilities. Theit devotion to Nike, is clearly seen through the domination of her figure on different Greek coins.
